During a recent meeting with Slovenia’s President Nataša Pirc Musar, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune portrayed his country as one dedicated to fostering peace both regionally and globally.
He asserted that ever since gaining independence, Algeria has been instrumental in resolving disputes peacefully, which sharply contrasts with its growing friction with nearby nations and ongoing involvement in local affairs.
Tebboune’s depiction of Algeria as an impartial global intermediary clashes sharply with its continued support for the Polisario Front and its obstructionist position regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue, even though Morocco’s autonomy proposal is gaining increasing international endorsement.
He similarly emphasized obsolete UN-mediated negotiation approaches, pushing aside the Security Council’s growing inclination towards practical and enduring answers.
Algeria’s declared dedication to peace is undermined by tense relations and closed borders with neighboring countries, highlighting a growing disconnect between its stated policies and actual behaviors on the international stage.
