Rain and Gales Set to Sweep Through Several Provinces

Sri Lanka, May 24 -- Intermittent showers can be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Northwestern, and Central provinces as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

Scattered showers or thunderstorms are expected this evening or overnight in various areas of the Uva province as well as in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts. Isolated rainfalls might also take place in other regions.

Significant rainfall exceeding 75 millimeters is expected in certain areas within the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Northwestern provinces as well as in the Galle, Matara, Nuwara Eliya, and Kandy districts.

Moderate to strong gusts with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kilometers per hour may occur occasionally across the western faces of the central mountains and within the Northern, North-central, North-western regions as well as the Southern provinces and Trincomalee district.

Starting May 30, the National Gallery of Zimbabwe will host "Portraits of Zimbabwe," an exhibit featuring more than 80 photographic prints by the late photographer Chicago Dzviti. Sho Yonashiro, the 30-year-old leader of Japanese idol group JO1, recently filmed an episode of Mnet’s “M Countdown” at CJ ENM’s headquarters in Seoul. JO1, whose members are all Japanese, was formed through “Produce 101 Japan,” a joint Korean-Japanese audition program. The group is part of a growing wave of localized K-pop groups that follow the K-pop production model but are based in Japan. Until recently, these groups kept a low profile regarding their Korean connections, concerned about criticism in Japan for focusing too much on overseas activities.
