Ogun 2025: Benue Governor Receives Unity Torch

On Wednesday, representatives from the National Sports Commission handed over the Unity Torch to Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State.

The unveiling of the torch acts as an official invite for the State to participate in the event scheduled from May 16 to May 30 in Ogun State.

Accepting the torch on behalf of the governor, State Deputy Governor Sam Ode praised the delegation for their visit and emphasized that this event signifies a bond of unity, aiming to bring together all sports enthusiasts nationwide and strengthen our collective spirit despite our varied origins.

Ode mentioned that his principal is passionate about sports and has introduced numerous innovations in this area, particularly enhancing the infrastructure within the sporting domain.

He urged investors to head to the state and put money into sporting events, characterizing sports as a sector.

He stated, "It should be noted that none of the previous governors of Benue State have promoted sports development like Governor Alia has, particularly in terms of investing significant funds into the field of football."

We urge investors to join us in investing in the state’s sporting endeavors since sports constitute an industry. We view this not merely as recreation or social engagement but as a business venture. To tap into untapped talent representing our state, we plan to expand into various sports such as volleyball, handball, table tennis, and more.

The Ode also praised the resilience of the officials from the state-owned football club, Lobi Stars, acknowledging their determination despite the significant hurdles posed by playing away from home. He remains optimistic that the McCarthy Stadium in Makurdi will soon be prepared for the team to host their home games there.

NASCAR Clarifies Rules After Christopher Bell Stumbles in Wrong Pit Box

NASCAR has made a minor tweak to its regulations regarding entering another team’s pit box during stops, but this change serves mainly as an explanation rather than a significant alteration. Bell pulled out of his pit stall during Lap 108 for a tire change, but soon after, crew chief Adam Stevens noticed an issue with a loose wheel. Recognizing the problem promptly, Stevens instructed Bell to locate another team member’s pit area so that they could address and fix the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 vehicle effectively. This decision was made because a detached wheel while racing could lead to penalties for the tire changer and jackman lasting up to two weeks. After the race, Stevens mentioned that they had previously talked about such a situation and that he was aware it would result in a penalty only if they pitted outside their designated pit box. Stevens informed journalists following the event, "This topic isn’t new; we've addressed it previously....
