Katsina Plans CCTV Installation in Local Governments to Tackle Insecurity

The Katsina State government has approved the installation of Closed-Circuit Television surveillance cameras across all 34 local government areas in the state, as part of efforts to tackle the growing threats posed by bandits and terrorists.

On Tuesday, Robo Tambaya, who serves as both the Chairman of Danja Local Government Area and the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Katsina State, revealed information at a stakeholder’s town hall meeting. This event was organized by the state Police Command.

The meeting was part of activities marking the 2025 maiden annual Police Day celebration, which took place at the Officers Mess in Katsina.

Tambaya said, “I want to give you information that you have to push it. I had a meeting with the Commissioners for Local Government and Chieftaincy, and Internal Security and Home Affairs, about my discussion with the state Governor to ensure that maximum security is provided and as I spoke to you, 34 local government councils will be provided with CCTV cameras to improve the security situation in our local government areas as well as 361 wards will be provided with CCTV surveillance cameras to improve security situation.”

He added, “As you all know, Governor Umar Radda has been on his toes to ensure the security of every citizen of Katsina State. One key thing with the police is that they are trying to maintain peace and maximum security for the development of our State. I want to assure you of our maximum support at all times.”

The participants at the gathering showed gratitude towards the police force for their endeavors in reducing crime and lawlessness in Katsina State.

They also called on the police to be more decisive in dealing with criminals, especially those within the police force itself.

In reply, the spokesperson for the Inspector-General of Police, AIG Musa Abubakar, told those present that the IGP was committed to maintaining rigorous discipline among police officers. He stressed that anyone who compromised the honor of the organization would face consequences.

Abubakar said, "The police is among the well-organized bodies, and we will keep ensuring that individuals harming this organization's reputation face consequences. I guarantee everyone that we won’t overlook anything."

The Commissioner of Police for Katsina State, CP Bello Shehu, also addressed the gathering, promising to work collaboratively with the people for the betterment and security of the state.

The PUNCH reported that President Bola Tinubu proclaimed National Police Day on April 19, 2024, at the Nigeria Police Award and Commendation Ceremony held in Abuja.

The day is dedicated to celebrating the dedication, sacrifices, and achievements of the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring national security. It serves as a platform to recognize the force’s pivotal role in safeguarding lives and property while reinforcing public trust and collaboration in maintaining law and order.

The celebrations for National Police Day began nationwide on Wednesday, April 2nd, and will continue until Sunday, April 6th, 2025. This event includes various activities such as an outreach program, exhibition, walkathon, culminating in a parade and procession at Eagle Square in Abuja on the final day.
