The Kisii senator, Richard Onyonka, has shown his lack of interest in the proposed pay raise for members of both the National Assembly and the Senate.

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) approved a raise for legislators' monthly compensation as well as additional allowances and benefits that will appear on their pay stubs starting from April 1, 2025.
As per the reports, a legislator would receive their payment for the upcoming month with an additional amount of at least KSh 366,011.
In response to this, Onyonka contended that raising the remuneration for Members of Parliament at this juncture in the economic climate is ill-advised.
"I have never requested for any increase in salary. Instead, let those funds be directed towards underprivileged children in our nation who lack educational opportunities. Adding an extra Kshs. 360,000 to my senate pay does not seem important when we're facing severe and intolerable economic challenges as a country," he stated.
